Women’s Centres Call for Recognition for the Work They Do in the Fight to End Violence Against Women
To mark Provincial Women’s Centre Day, L’R releases a platform of demands to seek recognition for their work surrounding issues of violence against women.

L’R des centres de femmes du Québec chooses International Women’s Day to sound the alarm about the number of women across the province in the clutches of psychological distress. Under the banner of Let’s listen to women, L’R takes March 8 as an opportunity to call for immediate action in facing this mental health crisis among women.

To mark the first day of the Provincial Week of Action, L'R des centres de femmes du Québec releases its Joint Statement for a Feminist Economic Relaunch. Centre workers from across the province will meet with 24 MNAs. They also will participate in disruptive actions to underline the importance of including women in economic relaunch plans.

What’s needed is for government authorities to be coherent and transparent. Yet, with the majority of our questions still hanging in the balance, one has to wonder about their chosen communication strategy.

In response to the report from Québec’s Expert Committee on Support for Victims of Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence, L’R des centres de femmes du Québec applauds the committee’s demonstrated understanding of the issues. Despite the report validating the experiences of both survivors and women’s centres, a number of problems remain.

L’R des centres de femmes du Québec issued a letter to the Québec Premier, the Minister of Health and Social Services, and the management of the CISSS de Lanaudière, to call out the inhuman treatment to which Joyce Echaquan was subjected at Joliette hospital and to demand that those responsible for her death be arrested and brought to trial.
